In the 1990s, graduates of the M. Glinka School of Choral and Orchestral Conducting in the State Conservatoire (Nizhny Novgorod) united by a passion for Russian vocal heritage, founded a male ensemble to preserve and promote both church and secular music as well as the unique tradition of Russian male vocal singing. Since its inception, the ensemble has enjoyed the ongoing support of the State Historical Museum of Russia in Moscow.

In their early years, DOROS were performing in the Novodevichy Convent, also known as the Bogoroditse-Smolensky Monastery, in Moscow. In 2006 the ensemble was then invited to perform at Saint Basil's Cathedral, the iconic building in the historic site of the Red Square, which is considered to be one of the most outstanding and remarkable monuments of Old Russian architecture. Konstantin Senchenko, a graduate of, and then lecturer at, the Nizhny Novgorod Conservatoire, has been leading the ensemble since its foundation.
ABOUT US
On 3 July 2002 (the date which is considered to be the birthday of the ensemble) Gurgen Gortsunyan (ensemble’s ex-singer) proposed the ensemble name to be "DOROS", a word sounding very close to a Greek word for “gift”. The first CD had DOROS as its title. Since then the ensemble has been promoting the traditions of the church and secular music not only in Russia but also abroad, and have had a large number of concerts in Europe

In 2008, during a concert tour through the east and south of France, the ensemble received an invitation to regularly perform at the Basilica of Saints Nazarius and Celsus in Carcassonne, where DOROS second ensemble performed up until 2018.

In September 2017 DOROS were again invited to take part in the concert of eastern Christian music “Sacred Imaginations” which was held at the Barbican Hall in London, England.
